Training programme on Fibre & Yarn Quality Management in Spinning

A three day training programme on “Fibre & Yarn Quality Management in Spinning” was organised at ICAR- CIRCOT during October 5-7, 2016. The training was attended by breeders from agricultural universities, students from academic institutions and industry personnel. The training focussed on fibre quality aspects, relation between fibre and yarn quality, modern spinning systems, post spinning operations and yarn quality analysis. The participants were also taken to the nearby Spinning industry to provide them exposure in a commercial setup. The Training concluded with the distribution of the participation certificates to the trainees by the Director, Dr. P.G. Patil, during the valedictory session held on 7th October, 2016. The feedback received from the participants was positive and they expressed satisfaction over the course content, lectures and deliberations.


ICAR-Short Course on “Synthesis and Characterization of Nanomaterials for Agricultural Applications” at ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai

ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology, Mumbai organized an ICAR-Sponsored 10-day short course on “Synthesis and Characterization of Nanomaterials for Agricultural Applications” during September 19-28, 2016. A total of 20 participants from different Agricultural Universities and ICAR institutions from 11 states viz., Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Tripura participated in this programme.
The Short Course was inaugurated by Dr. P. G. Patil, Director, ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai. During the course, 21 lectures were delivered covering the basics of nanotechnology, characterization techniques, applications in integrated pest management, fertilizers, filtration, sensors, textiles and composites in addition to safety, toxicology & standards relevant to nanotechnology. Also, 13 hands-on practical were arranged in various fields of nanotechnology. The participants were sensitized about the requirement of skill & entrepreneurship development and business incubation in nanotechnology and also encouraged to work in a collaborative mode for better sharing of resources and expertise.
The trainees having diversified fields of expertise ranging from Microbiology, Entomology, Horticulture, Nanotechnology, Aquaculture, Animal nutrition, Biotechnology, Fish processing processing technology to Physics, Chemistry and Engineering rated this short course as Excellent.
During valedictory function, Dr. Patil insisted the participants to go beyond the boundaries of research to transfer of technology for the benefit of farmers and other stakeholders. Dr. N. Vigneshwaran, Sr. Scientist was the Course Director and Er. A.K. Bharimalla, Sr. Scientist was the Course Coordinator.


Training Programme on Value Addition to Cottonseed

Four days training programme on Value Addition to cottonseed was organised at ICAR- CIRCOT during 29th Aug- 1st September, 2016. Four industry personnel from the states of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat and four students from Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai participated in this self- financed training programme. Participants were appraised about the modern scientific methods for processing this important by product of cotton cultivation to realize its full potential and various technologies developed by the institute for further value addition. Participants were introduced to various analytical methods for determination of important parameters of cotton seed and its products and demonstrations on various value addition technologies were also conducted. Training concluded with the distribution of the participation certificates to the trainees by the Director in- charge, Dr Sujata Saxena during the valedictory session held on 1st September, 2016. In their feedback, all participants found this training very useful and well organized.
