Training on “Absorbent Cotton Technology” on Sep 2-3, 2015

ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai organized a two day self-financed training programme on “Absorbent Cotton Technology” during September 2 - 3, 2015. The objective of this training was to create awareness among entrepreneurs and students about the potential of absorbent cotton and to introduce them to the various processes involved in its production and quality evaluation as per the standards set by Indian Pharmacopeia.

The course was inaugurated by Dr. P.G. Patil, acting Director of the institute on 2nd September, 2015 who briefed  about the importance of absorbent cotton and the relevance of this training in the current scenario in his inaugural address.

The CD containing the lecture notes of the training was also released. There were ten participants in this training programme which included industry persons and budding entrepreneurs from different places in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. Pharmacy and textile technology students also participated and a few of them were from Ethiopia. The course consisted of lectures and practical demonstrations. A guest lecture on “Licensing of absorbent cotton industry” by Shri.G.D.Hukare Asst. Commissioner, FDA, Maharashtra was also arranged where participants could gain knowledge about various FDA regulations and the process of obtaining FDA clearance for setting up of absorbent cotton manufacturing unit. Feedback about the course was collected from the participants and they also expressed their views about the programme during the Valedictory function. Almost all the lectures and demonstrations were rated as very good and the participants appreciated this initiative taken by ICAR- CIRCOT.   Dr. S.K. Chattopadhyay, Head, Mechanical Processing Division, ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai, distributed the certificates to the participants in the valedictory function held in the afternoon of 3rd September.

In his valedictory speech, he highlighted various issues especially the environment related issues in the establishment of absorbent cotton industry. Dr. Sujata Saxena, Principal Scientist & Head I/C, CBPD was the Course Director of this training programme and Dr. ASM. Raja, Senior Scientist, CBPD, Er. Ashok Kumar Bharimalla, Senior Scientist, TTD, Dr. Virendra Prasad, Scientist, CBPD, Mr. A. Arputharaj, Scientist, CBPD & Dr. R. D. Nagarkar,
