Hon’ble Special Secretary DARE and Secretary ICAR, Shri Chhabilendra Roul visited ICAR-CIRCOT on 21st July 2018. He interacted with the scientists and administrative staff of the institute. At the outset, Dr. P. G. Patil, Director, ICAR-CIRCOT welcomed him and presented in brief about the research achievements, skill development programmes, revenue generation trend and implementation of different government initiatives at the institute.
Further, Director, ICAR-CIRCOT informed that the institute is more than nine decades old and is going to celebrate the centenary year very soon.
Hon’ble Shri. Roul appreciated the efforts taken by the institute. He elucidated on the various policy initiatives of the Council to bring in more transparency and efficiency in the system. He emphasized that as the institute is marching towards the centenary year, thematic celebration should be planned and a brainstorming needs to be carried out within the institute with relevant stakeholders. He visited the different laboratories, Nanocellulose Pilot Plant, X-Ray labs, newly created workplaces and the gymnasium facility.
Cotton is a principal source of income for a large number of farmers and other stake holders in India. Fibre quality is a key factor determining cotton price and quality of cotton textile products. Fibre quality is mainly characterized by fibre length, strength and micronaire, and the textile industry has a preference for long and strong fibres of moderate micronaire for producing high-quality yarns.
